Mold
What is mold?
Mold: n. a downy or furry growth that feeds on the surface of organic matter, caused by fungi especially in the presence of humidity and warmth.
Molds are part of the natural environment and play an integral role in breaking down dead organic matter. Mold reproduces by tiny spore that are invisible to the naked eye and float through indoor and outdoor air. Mold begins growing indoors when mold spores land on surfaces that are wet. Moisture is a requirement for mold to grow.
Is mold dangerous?

Molds do have the potential to cause health problems. They produce allergens, irritants and potentially toxic substances. Allergic reactions may include sneezing, runny nose, skin rash, and irritation of the throat and lungs. Mold has also been known to cause asthma attacks in people who suffer from asthma. The severity of a reaction to exposure to mold varies and is dependent on the individual’s sensitivity to the many different strands of mold. There are millions and millions of different types of mold and there is continuing research on the health effects on humans. For more information it is suggested that you contact your health professional as it relates to you and your family.
